MARSHMALLOW TOWER CHALLENGE
October 17, 2018 - Students in Room C7 were presented with a challenge in this STEM project: To build the tallest free standing tower that can withstood a California 3.0 earthquake (shake the desk for 3 seconds). The construction materials for each team are 50 marshmallows and 100 toothpicks. The record of 15.5 inches was set by the 2015-16 class.
Each engineer used geometric figures of choice to build the tallest structure that they can using the materials provided. After 45 minutes of problem solving and playing engineers dealing with sticky falling marshmallows, Grant captured first place with the new all-time record height of 18 inches!!! The best part was that at the end, the engineers get to eat their towers!!! |
